Featured — By on September 2, 2010 at 2:26 pm

The Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania USA Cycling Criterium State Championships will be held on Saturday, September 4, in downtown Wilkes-Barre as part of The Wilkes-Barre Health & Fitness Festival.

Bicycle races will be held throughout the day from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning on River Street in Wilkes-Barre. The races will culminate in the Criterium beginning at 5 pm.

For those of you who haven’t experienced a cycling criterium, it’s like NASCAR racing on bikes. The race will feature 100 cyclists riding in a tight pack at speeds averaging 30+ mph. The course runs around Public Square, down River Street and up Main Street for 40 laps.

Online registration closes at noon on Friday; fees range from $10 (youth events) to $39 (pro event). Winners will receive cash prizes.

Will the Wilkes-Barre Criterium State Cycling Championships be held again over Labor Day Weekend, 2011?
If so, could you email me the exact dates, and any information about the race.
I would also be interested in any other events/festivals scheduled for 2011.
    Thank you,

    Katie Bright

  2. Hi Katie, I’m not sure yet about the 2011 Cycling Championships. Keep checking back for any updates on that and all 2011 events :)
