A new exhibit opened recently at the University of Scranton Hope Horn Gallery, “Landscape In Situ: Paintings by Andres Alvarez.”

The exhibition features local landscapes painted on cereal boxes, produced during the time that Alvarez, an artist from Medellin, Colombia, worked at the University of Scranton as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant. While residing in the Scranton area, Alvarez became interested in both the popular culture and regional landscape creating this series of paintings that addresses possible relationships between the two.

You can still catch the exhibit through Friday, Oct. 9. And on Friday, Oct. 2, during First Friday activities in downtown Scranton, there will be a lecture on the exhibit in Pearn Auditorium, Brennan Hall, at 5 p.m. by former Hope Horn Gallery Intern Eva Piatek. Public reception follows the lecture at the Hope Horn Gallery, Hyland Hall, from 6-8 p.m. And both events are free.
