Kick off the Summer with First Friday

First Friday Scranton mapIt’s going to be a great summer for First Friday art walks and it all begins this Friday in downtown Scranton from 6-9 p.m.

This month, 23 downtown businesses and galleries will be displaying the works of local artists. It’s going to be one of the most musical months ever with the following local musicians scheduled to perform: Billy Rogan and The Rev. Nathan Brady Crain at Northern Light Espresso Bar, 536 Spruce St.; John “Guido” Phillips at the AFA Gallery, 514 Lackawanna Ave.; the Wanabees at City Cafe, 309 N. Washington Ave.; Brenda Fernandes at Duffy Accessories, 218 Linden St.; Rhett Camden at Viva el Caribe, 227 Lackawanna Ave.; Charles Havira at Dionysus Downtown, 244 Penn Ave.; Jugdish at LAVISH Body+Home, 600 Linden St.; and Antioch will be performing at the Piazza dell’ Arte, Courthouse Square.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Ave., as always, offers a wide variety of activities with art by Delayne DePietro, Tom Mills, Keystone Community Resources and students Nick and Stephanie Marie Shotwell; acoustic music by Corey Lucas and A.J. Hickernell; an ice cream social; and a display of classic cars. Dionysus Downtown will also host a unique performance of Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad. And a new venue this month – Goddess Creations at The Scranton Club, 404 N. Washington Ave., with oil paintings by Mary Lou Chiberka; oils, tar, sculpture, wood and plaster by Paul McCrone; abstract oils and wood by Keith Barbuti; and photography by P. Simons.
