Winterfest Bluegrass Festival in Stroudsburg

This weekend the city of Stroudsburg will host Northeastern Pennsylvania’s biggest bluegrass festival when the Pocono Bluegrass and Folk Society holds it Winterfest, Jan. 30-Feb. 1.

Venues across the Stroudsburg area will feature bluegrass bands and workshops, music and food, all weekend long. You can come out to listen to great local bluegrass musicians or play along during what’s set to be the biggest and best Winterfest yet.

On Saturday, the Sherman Theater, 724 Main Street, Stroudsburg, will offer a full-day of bluegrass entertainment, including Scranton’s own Cabinet and culminating in a performance by world renowned traditional bluegrass band, Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass. Paisley and his group have played at every Winterfest since the first in 2001.

There are also workshops scheduled at the Sherman Theater on Saturday including guitar with Anthony Hannigan (noon), fiddle with Coleman Smith (1 p.m.), mandolin with Scott Eager (2 p.m.), banjo (3 p.m.) and songwriting with Lorraine Dash (4 p.m.).

Tonight

  • The Lost Ramblers at Mollies, 622 Main Street, Stroudsburg, 6-9 p.m.;
  • The Texas Rose Trio will play at Tapestry Corner, 779 Main Street, Stroudsburg, from 7-9 p.m.;
  • Heavy Traffic will play Old Mill Pub, Business Route 209, Sciota, beginning at 9 p.m.;
  • Uncle Pete Tawny & Juggernaut String Band at Main Street Lounge,418 Main St., Stroudsburg beginning at 10 p.m.;
  • The Lost Ramblers & Friends at Sarah Street Grill, Quaker Alley, Stroudsburg, beginning at 9 p.m.
  • Santara Wind at Hideaway Lounge, 7th and Main, Stroudsburg, beginning at 9 p.m.;
  • Danny Stewart’s Jam Room All Evening at Cedar Room, Pocono Inne Towne, Stroudsburg

Saturday

  • Children’s program  at Sherman Theater, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Stage shows at Sherman Theater, 11 a.m.- 11 p.m.
  • Blue Mountain Fiddlers at Twin Willows, Strawberry Hill Road, Sciota, 3-6 p.m.
  • Jam with the Mill Creek Boys at Hideaway Lounge, 7th and Main, Stroudsburg, 9 p.m.
  • Danny Stewart’s Jam Room at Cedar Room, Pocono Inne Towne, Stroudsburg, all evening

Sunday

  • Gospel show featuring “Brother Joe” Fiola and Shindig with Aimless Pursuit & Heavy Traffic  at Elks Lodge, 260 Washington St., East Stroudsburg, 10 a.m.;
  • Lost Ramblers and Friends at Johnny O’s, Route 447, East Stroudsburg, 3-6 p.m.
